Hangtou Site

Hangtou Site is located about 600 meters to the east of Hangtou Village in Lingyang Town of Ju County, and covers an area of about 60,000 square meters. The cultural layer is about 1-1.5 meters and is divided into three layers. A large number of precious cultural relics were unearthed including Big-mouth Wine Container, High-neck Pot and Flat Jade Cong-tube. Hangtou Site belongs to Dawenkou Culture period, and resembles the cultural features and age of Dazhujia Village Site and Lingyang River Site. The pictographs carved on the unearthed potteries from Hangtou Site further enrich the contents of pictograph and promote research in ancient Chinese characters. The Site plays a unique and important role in exploring the historical period of disintegration of clan system and the progressing towards era of civilization. It was approved as Historical and Cultural Protection Site at provincial level by Shandong Provincial Government in 1992 and Historical and Cultural Protection Site at national level by the State Council in 2013.
