Gisborne District of New Zealand

Gisborne District is located in the north-eastern corner of the central North Island, bordering the International Date Line. It covers a total area of 8,386 square kilometers with a total population of 44,000. The main industries in Gisborne include forestry, animal husbandry, agriculture, fishery, food processing, wood processing, wine industry and horticulture.With airport and seaport in its boundary, Gisborne District enjoys convenient transportation. The incumbent mayor is Meng Foon  (Liao Zhenming). Rizhao established sister city relationship with Gisborne District in August 1996. The two sides signed Memorandum on Deepening Friendly Exchanges and Cooperation between Gisborne District Council of New Zealand and Rizhao City of the People's Republic of China to mark the 20th anniversary of sister city relationship in July 2016.

Karratha, Australia

Karratha, formerly known as Roebourne shire, is an important hub city in Pilbara region of Western Australia. It is the 6th largest economy in Australia in terms of overall economic volume. It was upgraded to a municipal city and renamed as Karratha on July 1, 2014. It has 26,000 people in the city and is 1500 kilometers away from Perth, capital of Western Australia. There are several ports in its boundary such as Dan Pierre Port. The city is bestowed with rich iron ore and natural gas resources and known as the engine for Australian mining industry. Many internationally renowned energy mining enterprises set up production base in this area such as BHP, Rio Tinto, FMG and the Northwest Continental Shelf companies. Lanshan District and Karratha City established sister city-district relation on November 26, 2014. The incumbent mayor is Peter Long.

Dangjin, Republic of Korea

Dangjin is located at northwestern Chungcheongnam-do along the west coast of Korea. It covers a land area of 704.4 square kilometers with a population of 172,000 people. The coastline stretches as long as 86 kilometers. The city is divided into 2 eup, 9 myeon and 3 dong. Dangjin has 15 industrial parks with three of them being national level industrial parks and 12 local industrial parks. The main industries include steel, electronics, chemistry and logistics. Hyundai Steel and Dongkuk Steel are settled here. KIM HONG-JANG is incumbent mayor of Dangjin. Rizhao established sister city relationship with Dangjin in April 2007.

Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan

Located on the banks of the Amu-Darya River, Turkmenabat is the second-largest city in Turkmenistan and capital of Lebap Province. It has a population of approximately 250,000 people. As a cultural and industrial center, Turkmenabat has abundant natural gas, crude oil and agriculture resources. With annual output of ten million tons, crude oil refining plays an important role in industries of the city. Other industries include fertilizer, ship repairing, mechanical repairing, furniture, building materials, silk weaving, wool spinning, cotton ginning, tailoring, knitting, shoemaking, sheepskin processing, meat and milk products processing and winery. Rizhao established sister city relationship with Turkmenabat of Turkmenistan in May, 2014.The incumbent mayor is Bazarov Guvanch.

Trabzon, Turkey

Located on the Black Sea coast, Trabzon is the capital of Trabzon Province. It has a population of over 220 thousand and covers an area of 23.2 square kilometers. It is an important center for trade, transport, culture and tourism along Black Sea coast of northeastern Turkey. Main industries of Trabzon include fishing and processing, tea planting and processing, cement products, handicrafts and jewelry processing, wood processing, textile, mental processing and shoemaking. Major mineral resources are copper, lead and iron. It is abundant with tobacco, orange, corn, potato and hazelnut. The main export products are grain, livestock and tobacco. Trabzon Airport has direct lines to Ankara and Istanbul. Built in 1949, Trabzon Port is the largest port in the region. The incumbent mayor is Dr. Orhan Fevzi Gümrükcüoglu. Rizhao established sister city relationship with Trabzon in December 1991.

Coatzacoalcos, Mexico

Coatzacoalcos, lying on the Gulf of Mexico, is located in the southern part of Mexico. As a port city, it connects the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean for Mexican Mainland by the shortest distance on land. The city covers an area of 471 square kilometer and has a population of 300,000. Its industry is dominated by petrochemical sector and bulk cargo. Coatzacoalcos enjoys long history and profound culture. Olmec Culture, with a history of 5,000 years, was originated in Coatzacoalcos. The incumbent mayor is Joaquín Caballero Rosiñol. Rizhao established sister city relationship with Coatzacoalcos on 23 October, 2005.

Muroran, Japan

Muroran, located in the south of Hokkaido, is one of the major ports in Japan. It covers an area of 80.8 square kilometers with a population of about 110,000. Put into use in 1872, Muroran Port now has 46 public wharfs and 63 corporate specialized wharfs, and annual throughput reaches 54 million tons. With convenient transportation and developed industries, Muroran is strong in such industries as machinery manufacturing, oil refining, shipbuilding and cement and is home to branches of Japan Steel and Nippon Steel. In recent years, Muroran attaches great importance to transformation of scientific and technological achievements of colleges and universities and scientific R&D, achieving rapid technical development in engineering, metal processing and mechanical assembly. As a result, enterprises with advanced technology are established in Muroran in the fields of precision metal processing, assembly of electronic products, optical glass polishing and mechanical products processing. With abundant marine products such as scallop, pollock, salmon and kelp, fishery production takes an important position in Muroran. Muroran also witnesses rapid development in logistics, trade and other service industries. The incumbent mayor is Takeshi Aoyama. Rizhao established sister city relationship with Muroran on July 26, 2002. The two sides signed Memorandum on Deepening Friendly Exchanges and Cooperation between Muroran and Rizhao City in July 2016.
